In 2015 Navajo Merseyside and Cheshire held the first trans and homophobic Hate Crime Conference at Liverpool John Moores University.
From that event, it became the consensus that two separate events should be held to examine issues in greater depth to allow for a solutions based focus to be developed.
As was promised, we are now holding a Hate Crime Symposium specifically looking at the Transgender sector, with the hope being that we will follow with a dedicated event looking at LGB at a future date.
Dr Sten Mackenzie, who is new to Merseyside but certainly not new to trans issues, has organised the symposium.
Please note places are limited. So please only apply if you think that you will definitely attend on the day and that you are the right person in your organisation to do so (please discuss with your colleagues to decide who should attend).
The symposium will take place on Thursday September 21st, 9:15am – 4:45pm, and consist of presentations and discussion to share information and perspectives on transphobic discrimination. It will be held at the John Lennon Art and Design building on LJMU’s Mount Pleasant campus. There is disabled access, lunch and refreshments will be provided, and the event is free.
For more information and/or if you wish to attend, please email: S.Mackenzie@ljmu.ac.uk<mailto:S.Mackenzie@ljmu.ac.uk or phone Dr Sten Mackenzie on 07554 099 316.
