NHS England launched a consultation on specialised gender identity services for adults (17 and above) on 7 July 2017.
Through consultation NHS England have been inviting people’s views on two proposed service specifications: one for how Gender Identity Clinics will deliver specialised outpatient services; and another for how surgical units will deliver surgical interventions.
The service specifications, which were developed using feedback from an earlier engagement project with the trans community and clinical experts, describe new proposals for how specialised gender identity services will be delivered in the future.
NHS England are now eight weeks into the consultation and the response rate has been very good. NHS England have listened and also followed up on the request to hold an additional workshop in the north of England. In addition to this NHS England are also running an event in Wales.
With the extra events, and to give people plenty of time to submit a response, NHS England have extended the consultation by two weeks. It will now close on 16 October 2017.
There are three public workshops taking place which people are invited to take part in. These are:
- 6 September 2017, London – completed
- 28 September 2017, Cardiff
- 2 October 2017, Leeds.
Places at the public workshops are limited so please chose one event to attend.
